Be You. Get More. Without Apology.

Finding Career Direction in Your 40s.

Jan 16, 2023

I know age is just a number, what matters is how you feel inside… 🙄🙄

But actually, being in your forties can feel scary when you don’t know what you want to do when you grow up.

When you feel like all of your experience and skills have been invested and developed in your current path and you should just stick it out. Or you feel like it’s too late to try something completely new.

Or worse, if you move industries or shift careers you’ll have to hustle again and start back at the bottom. No way friends, we’re not doing that!

The FEAR is real and it’s keeping you stuck. Whether you are a working mother looking for more balance and impact or hate what you’re doing and are thinking about a complete change. It can be difficult to know how to move your career forward and get clarity around what you want with FEAR lurking in the wings.

Here’s a secret #notsecret - what you want is possible and available to you - no matter your age. In fact, the older you are, the more skills and experience you have! No matter what your situation is.

Here is what you need to know to get started.

1. First, know that you are not alone. Most women who go through our coaching program and collective, the Propeller Experience are in their late 30s and 40s. I’m 43! You are in amazing company my friend.

This is when a lot of women realize their definition of success has changed or perhaps they’ve been living other people's version of success and not their own. McKinsey & Co. calls it the “Great Breakup”, I call it the “Great Wake Up”.

2. Know what you want. Knowing what you want, what you truly want - not what you think you should want, gives you direction, making it easier to create an action plan to get there.

This is by far the hardest and most important step of your journey. What do you want in your career and your life? What kind of job do you want, who do you want to work with, what kind of impact do you want to have and how much money do you want to make? Most importantly, how do you want to FEEL?

The trick to knowing what you want is parking your fears. Any time a “should” enters your thoughts - that is fear showing up. Mentally kick it to the curb for this exercise.

3. Focus on your Personal Development. Yes, that says “Personal” not “Professional”. You can learn anything - literally anything in the world. It’s all open and available to you through google and the abundance of courses and programs available online. The inner work, the personal work - learning to love yourself, figuring out what you want from your life, realizing the full and most abundant version of you - that is a game changer. Especially when it comes to your career.

When you step into the you, you were always meant to be - everything else falls into place. Like I said… game changer.

4. Build relationships. Getting out there and meeting people can open up doors of possibility and opportunity. When we connect with others and build relationships we learn and grow.

When we have a solid network and community we can take bigger risks and get better results. Surround yourself with people who will expand your thinking, your network and your opportunities. Cheer and be cheered. Your soul with thank you

Age is just a number. You can do anything. What will you do?
